A wedding is an occasion where a couple gets united
in ways of marriage. However, the traditions and customs vary greatly depending
on the religion, culture, society, etc. During a wedding ceremony, the rituals
and practices depend on which religion the couple follows, their culture, etc. In
some wedding ceremonies, the groom and the bride choose to dress in traditional
attire according to their customs, while other couples choose to follow the
western style of dressing in white.
Since immemorial times, exchanging wedding rings
have been a key part of marriage. In most marriage ceremonies, there is a
ritual called send-off, which means the exit of the bride and the groom.
However, this ritual varies from country to country. In Ethiopia, this ritual
takes place when the newly married couple bows and kisses the knees of the
elderly. In contrast, in some other countries like India and Malaysia, the
newlywed couple throws unfertilized rice, which symbolizes prosperity and
fertility.
